Commemoration of the heroic April 29, Operation Sea Angel Colonel (Retd) Mohammad Abdus Salam, Bir Pratik

  The cyclone that hit the coast of Chittagong on April 29, 1991 has been mentioned as the deadliest tropical cyclone in history. This storm affected 102 upazilas of 19 districts of Bangladesh. However, Sandwip, Chittagong, Cox’s Bazar, Kutubdia, Khepupara, Bhola, Teknaf were severely affected. 138,882 people died in this 1991 storm and almost an equal number were injured. To deal with this cyclone, ‘Operation Sea Angel’ – conducted by the United States and other countries, is one of the largest military relief efforts ever conducted. Colonel (Retd) Mohammad Abdus Salam Bir Pratik served as the liaison officer in this operation. Let’s learn about ‘Operation Sea Angel’ in his memoirs.
